Künker sale 439, lot 2480

This specimen was lot 2480 in Künker sale 439 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €8,000 (about US$11,006 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"POMMERN-STETTIN, HERZOGTUM Philipp II., 1606-1618. Goldgulden 1614, Stettin, auf die Regierungskunst. Brustbild im Mantel r.//Schwert und Feder gekreuzt. GOLD. RR Min. Schrötlingsfehler, winz. Probierspur am Rand, fast vorzüglich, Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 224, Osnabrück 2013, Nr. 1079. Exemplar der Slg. Carl Friedrich Pogge, Auktion L. & L. Hamburger 36, Frankfurt/Main 1903, Nr. 927 und der Slg. Karl-Ludwig Grabow, Berlin. (duchy of Pomerania-Stettin, Philip II, 1606-18, goldgulden of 1614, Stettin mint, on his coronation. Obverse: mantled bust right reverse sword and quill crossed. Very rare, minor die defects, edge tool marks, about extremely fine.)"

This type was also struck in 1615. A double goldgulden also exists. The reverse legend, "ALLES ZV SEINER ZEIT", translates as, "Everything in its time." Philip II died without issue, as did his brother and successor, Francis, in 1620, and his youngest brother Bogislav XIV, in 1637, ending the dynasty and Pomeranian independence.
