Poland 1995-MW 500 zlotych
This specimen was lot 32644 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 500 Zlotych, 1995-MW. Warsaw Mint. NGC MS-69. Presenting with an almost Prooflike nature, the present example has mirror like surfaces and soft devices." In 1995, the Polish currency was reformed; 10,000 old złotych (PLZ) became one new złoty (PLN). The złoty has remained fairly stable; at the time of its introduction in 1995, US$1 = 2.42 złote, today (July 2024), US$1 = 3.93 złotych. This one ounce bullion coin was struck in small numbers 1995-2008. It was accompanied by half ounce (Fr-160), quarter ounce (Fr-161) and tenth ounce (Fr-162) issues.
