Künker sale 293, lot 2118

This specimen was lot 2118 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €36,000 (about US$48,521 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"POLEN, KÖNIGREICH, Sigismund III. 1587-1632. Reichstaler 1627, Bromberg. Gekröntes Monogramm S[igismundus] T[ertius] R[ex], umher Lorbeerkranz//Jahreszahl 16 · 27, zu den Seiten je eine Rosette, oben und unten jeweils zwei zusammengebundene Lorbeerzweige. Von großer Seltenheit. Attraktives, sehr schönes Exemplar. (kingdom of Poland, Sigismund III, 1587-1632, thaler of 1627, Broberg mint. Obverse: crowned monogram "ST", laurel wreath around' reverse: date divides two rosettes, laurel wreaths around, tied with ribbons. Very rare, attractive, very fine example.)"

Altho the SCWC mentions several thalers for 1627 (Dav-4315 and -4316), this one seems to be omitted. Davenport notes this for 1623 and 1625-28.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 29.78 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-4317; KM-unlisted, Kopicki 1334 (R7).
