This specimen was lot 73169 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "POLAND. 3 Groschen (Trojak), 1592. Malbork Mint. Sigismund III. NGC AU-50. Pearly white surfaces display a medley of steel gray and apricot color on both faces. A well defined example with full detail and high-point wear difficult to discern." Malbork was known as Marienburg by the Teutonic Knights who ruled it until 1466, when it was taken by the king of Poland. Altho occupied for brief periods by the Swedish army, it remained part of Poland until the first partition of 1772.
