Piacenza 1590-AC scudo Dav-8358
This specimen was lot 654 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Parma. Alessandro Farnese, 1586-1592. Scudo 1590, Piacenza. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler. (Italy, duchy of Parma, Alexander Farnese, 1586-92, scudo of 1590, Piacenza mint. Rare, Good Very Fine, Minor flan flaw.)"
This scudo was struck 1589-1605, 1609 and 1620 and undated with various mintmasters. The duke died in 1592, aged 47 years. The issues of the seventeenth century are catalogued as Dav-4126. The duke issued a number of scudi, double scudi and triple scudi, all with the same obverse. The issues continued long after his death. The duke spent most of his military career fighting for Philip II in the Netherlands.
