This fifty piso was struck by the Franklin Mint to honor the fiftieth anniversary of the fall of Bataan to the Japanese. It was hoarded and is common today altho many have PVC damage. This, and the accompanying gold 1500 piso (KM 237), are the last coins struck for the Philippines by the Franklin Mint. The Filipino soldier in the foreground looks suspiciously like Ferdinand Marcos, whose war record was exaggerated and obfuscated.
Recorded mintage: 13,000 in matte finish and 4,626 proofs.
Specification: 27.40 g, 0.925 fine silver, 40 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 236.
