This specimen was lot 73030 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "PHILIPPINES. 100 Piso, 1983. Manila Mint. PCGS PROOF-69 Deep Cameo Gold Shield. Commemorating the National University, this tremendous Gem verges upon perfection." Wikipedia comments, "The National University (NU), colloquially National-U, is a private non–sectarian coeducational university located in Sampaloc, Manila, Philippines. The founder of the University, Mariano F. Jhocson Sr., established the institution on August 1, 1900 as Colegio Filipino in Quiapo, Manila. It is considered as the first private nonsectarian and coeducational institution in the Philippines and also, the first university to use English as its medium of instruction, replacing Spanish language."
