After striking large size pesos for the Philippines 1903-06, the U. S. Treasury decided to reduce the weight from 26.95 g to 20 g and the purity from 0.900 fine to 0.800 fine. The peso was struck in the new format 1907-12 and most dates are readily available. Many salvaged specimens exist, rescued from Manila Bay after being dumped there during the Japanese invasion of 1941-42.
