Steve Album sale 51, lot 1409

This specimen was lot 1409 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $5,700. The catalog description^[1] noted, "PHILIPPINES: Fernando VII, 1808-1833, AR 8 reales, 1828, with type II MANILA countermark, very lightly cleaned, on 1826JM Peru (Lima) 8 reales (KM-142.1) host, Fine, RR, ex Heritage Auction 363, Lot 23021 (with tag)." The authorities in Manila used this counterstamp for a brief period in 1828 to validate incoming pesos for circulation in the Philippines. This does not seem to have been a success so a simple "F-7^o" was used after 1832. The SCWC lists six different types receiving this counterstamp with none known on minors.
