Künker sale 335, lot 4201

This specimen was lot 4201 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,570 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"PFALZ, PFALZ-ZWEIBRÜCKEN-VELDENZ, HERZOGTUM. Johann II. 1604-1635. Reichstaler 1623, Zweibrücken. Hübsche Patina, winz. Kratzer, vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Pfalz-Zweibrucken-Veldenz, John II, 1604-35, thaler of 1623, Zweibrucken mint. Handsome patina, minor scratches, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1623-24 and is rather scarce. In 1685, the heir to Pfalz-Neuburg succeeded to Pfalz-Simmern and the two were merged into Pfalz once again.
