Steve Album sale 54, lot 2543

This specimen was lot 2543 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $132. The catalog description[1] noted, "PFALZ-ZWEIBRÜCKEN: Johann II, 1604-1635, AR 3 kreuzer, Zweibrücken, ND, in the name of the Holy Roman Emperor, Matthias, a pleasing mint state example, PCGS graded MS62." This splinter of the Palatinate was erected for Stephen, the first count, in 1410. It survived the Reformation, the Thirty Years War, French occupation (1676-97) and union with the king of Sweden (1655-1718). The last count, Maximilian, became elector (later king) of Bavaria in 1799 but lost his territory on the Rhine to revolutionary France. Altho this state struck this denomination in many varieties starting in the 1580's, this issue seems to be the last.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.60 g, silver.

Catalog reference: KM-16, Memmesheimer-2678, Noss-387.
