This specimen was lot 25450 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,997.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1854-MB Lima, MS61 NGC, lightly toned with full mint bloom, faint lamination on the coat of arms. Very scarce when certified as mint state." This type was struck at Cuzco 1826-45 and at Lima 1826-40 and 1850-55. This subtype, struck 1853-55, is marked by having "LIMA" spelled out in full on the reverse. This is one of the more available dates.
