Peru 1824-Cuz T 8 reales
This specimen was lot 75825 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $341.60. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 8 Reales, 1824-CUZCO T. Cuzco Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS VF-30. Cay-From the Richard August Collection." The royalists, being driven out of Lima in December 1823, set up a temporary mint in Cuzco in 1824 and briefly struck one, two and eight reales there along with a few eight escudos. The eight reales is by far the most common of their products. Two assayers, T and G, are known; T probably came first, as a G/T overassayer is known. The Cuzco mint remained open after independence and struck Republican types until 1846.
