Peru 1808-L JP 2 reales KM-104.2
This specimen was lot 75842 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $1,098. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU. 2 Reales, 1808-LIMAE JP. Lima Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS VF-30. Variety with imaginary bust and "FERDIN" in legend. From the Richard August Collection." The SCWC notes three different two reales for 1808: the familiar KM 95 struck for Charles IV, who abdicated in 1808; KM 104.1 and KM 104.2, both rare, both struck using imaginary busts of the imprisoned Ferdinand VII. KM 104.1 has the obverse legend "FERDND" while KM 104.2 has "FERDIN", as shown here. The "FERDIN" variety was struck in 1810 and 1811. Confusingly, the SCWC has the wrong photo for KM 104.1.
