This specimen was lot 559 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, cob 1/2 real, 1725, Louis I, rare. Bold full monogram with full date below, nearly full cross, AVF with darkly toned fields, highly sought for its clear Louis I attribution (posthumous)." This type was struck 1725 only. Louis' unexpected death forced his father, Philip V, to resume the throne. No half reales are recorded for 1725 in the name of Philip. In 1728, the fineness was reduced to 0.917.
