The first specimen was lot 12 in Sedwick sale 25 (Winter Park, FL, May 2019), where it sold for $17,850. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, cob 8 escudos, 1713M, NGC MS 62, ex-1715 Fleet (designated on label). Choice full cross-lions-castles with luster despite grainy fields (rusty dies), full and crisply detailed pillars-and-waves, minor staining from the sea, actually rather scarce without overdate. NGC #3501168-002. From the 1715 Fleet, with photo-certificate." The second specimen was lot 40 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $26,400. The catalog description[2] noted, "Lima, Peru, cob 8 escudos, 1713/2M, NGC MS 63, ex-1715 Fleet (designated on special label). Choice, deep and well-centered strike with full inner details and nearly full legends, including second date 713/2 (both overdates very clear), cross-side legend ending in HISPANIAR (Tauler #244c), light luster, tied with one other for second finest in NGC census behind a single MS 64. From the 1715 Fleet." This type is recorded for 1710-47. The Mexico City mint was converted to milled coinage in 1732-34 but Lima would not follow suit until 1751.
