Peru 1702-L H real
This specimen was lot 738 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $450. The catalog description[1] noted, "PERU, Lima, cob 1 real, 1702 H, ex-Ugaz. Cute teardrop shape (almost like a heart), with full pillars-and-waves struck off-center enough to enable a full and bold REX ANO 1702 in legend (central date also clear), full cross (also slightly off-center), AVF with contrasting toning. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection." The regime in Madrid finally permitted the viceroy in Lima to reopen the mint in 1684. This type was struck 1701-28 for the Bourbon king Philip V. Assayer Hurtado ("H") stamped his coins 1695-1710.
