This specimen was lot 23128 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $228. The catalog description[1] noted, "MALAYSIA. Penang. British East India Company. Cent (Pice), 1810. London Mint. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. Nicely struck with lovely dark chocolate brown patina throughout." This type was struck in 1810 while Penang was a trading station of the East India Company and is scarce in nice condition. Later issues were struck for the Straits Settlements, centered on Singapore.
