This specimen was lot 3676 in Goldberg sale 67 (Los Angeles, January 2012), where it sold for $7,187.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italian States - Parma. Doppia, 1797-S. Ferdinando DI Borbone, 1765-1802. Head right. Reverse: Crowned arms. Mint fresh luster. Rare date. NGC graded MS-63." This type is listed in the SCWC for 1786-96. All the dates are rare, so it is perhaps not surprising that the SCWC missed this date. Doppia means "double," and this coin is roughly a double ducat.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
Specification: 7.14 g, .891 fine gold, .205 troy oz AGW.
Catalog reference: Fr-930; KM-C18a (date unlisted); Mont-24, CNI-Unlisted date.
