Parma 1796-DG 6 lire
This specimen was lot 34370 in Heritage sale 3082 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $492. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy: Parma. Ferdinando di Borbone 6 Lire 1796 UNC Details (Reverse Spot Removed) NGC. By all measures a fully appealing representative of the type, supremely glassy in the fields with strong die polish lines. Quite difficult to locate as such, making the noted spot removal around the S in SEI rather inconsequential." This rare type was struck 1795-96 and is among the last issues of the duchy before being occupied by the French. The duke also issued a quadrupla doppia, doppia, ducato, tre lire, 20 soldi, 5 soldi and sesino in 1796.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 7.34 g, silver, 0.833 fine.
