This specimen was lot 73356 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "PARAGUAY. 2 Centesimos, 1870-SHAW. Birmingham Mint. NGC MS-65 Red. A bright and lustrous example with full original mint red and well defined features." This type was struck 1870 at the Heaton mint for Paraguay, accompanied by one and four centesimos. Paraguay, utterly ruined by the War of the Triple Alliance, could not afford additional coinage and other than some restrikes of these coins made in Asuncion, no more coins were issued until 1889.
