Paraguay (1865-70) real KM-B2
The first specimen was lot 1147 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "Paraguay (War of the Triple Alliance), 1 real, countermark "1" in rounded hexagonal field of horizontal lines (1865-70) on a wavy-edge 1/4 cut of a Bolivian Republic 4 soles of the mid-1800s, NGC F 15, c/s XF standard. Full countermark on worn host with some legend visible (including assayer MJ), deeply old-toned, interesting survivor from an issue of necessity coinage struck during the war against the Triple Alliance of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay." The second specimen was lot 1172 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[2] noted, "PARAGUAY, War of the Triple Alliance, 1 real, countermark "1" in rounded hexagonal field of horizontal lines (1865-70) on a wavy-edge quarter cut of a Bolivian Republic 4 soles, rare. Toned Fine with nearly full and well-detailed countermark below LIBRE of host, (RE)PUBLICA visible on other side, an interesting emergency issue during Paraguay's war against the "Triple Alliance" of Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay in 1865-70."
