Papal States 1797 60 baiocchi

This type was issued 1793-99 and seems to be the only issue of this denomination. It does not fit the quasidecimal system adopted in 1740 (ten baiocchi = one giulio, ten giulio = one scudo). It may have been intended to be a double testone (one testone = thirty baiocchi). A scarce variety (KM 1236.1) shows the date as 1769. This specimen was lot 1321 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "PAPAL STATES: Pius VI, 1775-1799, AR 60 baiocchi, 1797 year XXIII, EF."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 16.14 g, 0.917 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM 1236, Ber-2973.
