This specimen was lot 1722 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $333.20. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLOGNA: Revolutionary Government, AR 5 paoli, 1797, Madonna and Child, two-year type, About Unc." This date is a two year type struck in 1796-97 for Pius VI (1775-99) at the Bologna mint. In Bologna, half scudo = five paoli = 50 bolognini. The scudo superseded the piastra after 1740.
