This specimen was lot 2728 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it sold for $490. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italian States: Papal/Roman States. Doppio (2) Giulio (1/5 Scudo), MDCCLXIX (1769). Sede Vacante. Cardinal arms. Reverse: Radiant Dove. Beautiful iridescent toning. NGC graded MS-64." This is the only doppio giulio and the most common coin of the vacancy. The doppio giulio was twenty baiocchi, while the piastra, the Italian equivalent of the German thaler, was 105 baiocchi (3½ testone).
