Steve Album Auction 53, lot 897

This specimen was lot 897 in Steve Album Auction 53 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $570. The catalog description[1] noted, "PAPAL STATES: Clement XIII, 1758-1769, AR 2 giulio, 1767 year X, a lovely lustrous mint state example! PCGS graded MS63." This type was struck 1758-59 and 1766-69. Another double giulio featured the portrait of pope Clement XIII (KM 998). The doppio giulio was twenty baiocchi, while the scudo was one hundred baiocchi. The SCWC notes this type as fairly common, altho this example sold for nearly five times the catalog value.
