Sincona sale 80, lot 2829

This specimen was lot 2829 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 120 CHF (about US$144 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY | Vatican - Church State, Clemens VIII. 1592-1605. Testone 1600 / Anno IX, Roma. Rare, Very fine." This type bears a Roman numeral date, for the Holy Year. Other testone for Clement VIII include Ber-1440 thru -1454[2] but this seems to be the only one dated 1600. There is also a half piastra.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 9.59 g, .916 fine silver[2]. This specimen is 9.31 g.
