Steve Album sale 51, lot 3525

This specimen was lot 3525 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "PALAU: Republic, AV dollar, 2004, Marine Life Protection, mermaid flanked by dolphins // dolphin head, Choice Proof. Krause erroneously states that the dolphin head on reverse is multicolored, but it is not." This design was also used on a copper-nickel dollar (KM 72) which has the color sticker. Palau is a Pacific island nation with a population of about 18,000. First annexed by Spain in 1885, it passed to Germany (1899), Japan (1919) and the United States (1947) before obtaining partial independence in 1994. As the US dollar is used on the islands, Palauan coins are all NCLT's.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: 1.24 g, 0.999 fine gold, 13.94 mm diameter, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-100.
