This specimen was lot 32093 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "Palau: Republic palladium Proof "Kiau Chau" 5 Dollars 1999 PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC, cf. KM20. A splendid example of an issue struck as part of the International Coin Series to commemorate Kiau Chau. The glittering devices are boldly designed and struck, displacing a terrific intricacy of detail and great contrast when viewed against the deeply reflective fields in the background. APDW 1.0000 oz." This is an off-metal strike of an NCLT that was issued in silver. Palau is a Pacific island nation with a population of about 18,000. First annexed by Spain in 1885, it passed to Germany (1899), Japan (1919) and the United States (1947) before obtaining partial independence in 1994. As the US dollar is used on the islands, Palauan coins are all NCLT's.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 25 g, 0.925 fine silver, this specimen 0.999 fine palladium.

Catalog reference: KM 24.
