Paderborn 1765-AS thaler Dav-2514
This specimen was lot 3269 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"Paderborn, Bistum, Wilhelm Anton von Asseburg, 1763-1782. Taler 1765, Neuhaus. Gutes vorzüglich. Leicht justiert. (Germany, bishopric of Paderborn, Wilhelm Anton von Asseburg, 1763-1782, thaler of 1765, Neuhaus mint. Good extremely fine, Minor adjustment marks.)"
The bishop of Paderborn was suffragan to the bishop of Münster but still managed to issue a few coins for his domain. Wilhelm Anton was not a pluralist although his precedessor, Clemens August, was also archbishop of Cologne and bishop of Liege. The bishopric was annexed to Prussia in 1803, during Napoleon's reorganization of Germany.
