Ottingen in the late eighteenth century

This specimen was lot 52073 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Ottingen. "Hound" Gulden (60 Kreuzer), 1675. Ottingen Mint. Albrecht Ernst I. PCGS EF-40. A SCARCE and enticing single year issue, this type remains ever-popular on account of the charming hound prancing leftward upon one side. Somewhat mottled in color, but still original and pleasing." The county of Ottingen was raised to a principality in 1674. It was mediatized to Bavaria in 1806. While the gulden of 1674-78 (KM 40) is scarce, it is much more available than this one, struck 1675 only, which featured the prince's hound on the reverse.
