Ottingen in the late eighteenth century

This specimen was lot 73665 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Ottingen. Gulden (60 Kreuzer), 1675. Albert Ernest I. PCGS Genuine--Damage. Despite the noted damage, which likely arises from some scratches, this example is yet strongly detailed, with good eye appeal and charm throughout." The county of Ottingen was raised to a principality in 1674. It was mediatized to Bavaria in 1806. While this gulden of 1674-78 is scarce, it is much more available than KM 49, also of 1675, which featured the prince's hound on the reverse.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver.

Catalog reference: KM-40.
