southeast France at the end of the Hundred Years War

This specimen was lot 453 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 325 CHF (about US$390 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Raymond III, 1335-1340 oder Raymond IV, 1340-1393. Florin dor o. J. Münzzeichen: Schwert. Gutes sehr schön. Doppelschlag. (France, principality of Orange, Raymond III or IV, undated gold florin, mintmark: sword. Good very fine, Double struck.)"

The princes of Orange eventually obtained Nassau and finally the throne of the Netherlands, where they reside today, Orange having long ago been annexed to France. The princes issued coinage for their domain into the seventeenth century.
