Nurnberg 1686 pfennig
The first specimen was part of lot 32888 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), which sold for $288. The catalog description[1] noted, "Four-Piece Lot of Certified 17th-Century Nürnberg Minors MS65 NGC, includes Pfennig 1681, Pfennig 1686; Kreuzer 1676, and Kreuzer 1678. A remarkable quartet of glistening silver coins, all with full original mint luster and the majority with an admirable seafoam hue." The second specimen was lot 73768 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[2] noted, "GERMANY. Nurnberg. Pfennig, 1686. PCGS MS-62. A boldly struck and pleasing uniface Pfennig, without hole but with a notch in the rim (as made). The surfaces are nicely original and attractively toned." This small coin, worth one-fourth kreuzer, is noted for 1675-1700. It has a low catalog value.
