Sincona sale 26, lot 2686

This specimen was lot 2686 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"Nurnberg, Goldgulden 1529. St. Laurentius. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Nurnberg, gold gulden of 1529, obverse: St. Laurence. Rare, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type commenced production about 1429 and were struck undated for several decades. Those produced 1506-47 have dates. The long production run makes this type the most common Nurnberger gold coin prior to the 1640's.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.25 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.23 g.
