This specimen was lot 2687 in Sincona sale 26 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,100 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Nurnberg, Goldgulden 1540. Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich (Germany, city of Nurnberg, gold gulden of 1540, extremely fine or better.)"
This type commenced production about 1429 and were struck undated for several decades. Those produced 1506-47 have dates. The long production run makes this type the most common Nurnberger gold coin prior to the 1640's.
