Sincona sale 80, lot 3214
Reineck in 1789, east of Hanau

This specimen was lot 3214 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA | Nostitz-Rieneck, Grafen, Anton Johann, 1683-1736. 1/2 Taler 1719, Nürnberg. Mit der Signatur GFN (Georg Friedrich Nürnberger, Münzmeister in Nürnberg, 1677-1716). Sehr selten. Sehr schön. Henkelspur und Sammlerpunze im Rand. (Austria, county of Nostitz-Rieneck, Anton John, 1683-1736, half thaler of 1719, Nuremburg mint, signed GFN. Very rare, Very fine, Mount mark and private punch mark on edge.)"

The counts of Nostitz-Reineck were not territorial lords but received the mint right from the emperor for services rendered. Reineck, their seat, was purchased from the archbishop of Mainz but most of the counts' career would have been spent at Vienna or with the emperor. The SCWC also notes a thaler and a ducat.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 14.36 g.
