Norway 1918 ore

CNG Lissner sale, lot 783

This specimen was lot 783 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $84.70. The catalog description^[1] noted, "NORWAY. Haakon VII. 1905-1957. FE Øre. Kongsberg mint. Dated 1918. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Choice toned uncirculated. War-time iron øre are rare in choice Mint State." Bronze one øre were struck in Norway 1908-52 but the series was interrupted twice, once in World War One by this iron type of 1918-21 and again in World War Two by a Nazi issue of 1941-45. The denomination was suspended in 1972.
