CNG Lissner sale, lot 760

This specimen was lot 760 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $21,780. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. Karl IV. 1859-1872. AR 24 Skilling. Kongsberg mint. Dated 1862. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 67. Super gem brilliant uncirculated with a hint of patina on border. The highest graded 24 Skilling of any date. Extremely rare in almost any grade above VF. Purchased from Carol Plante, October 1973 (Carol finds the most incredible minors and rarities)." This one year type is near the end of a denomination first issued in 1819. It was worth one fifth of a specie daler. This specimen sold for five times the catalog value.
