This specimen was lot 25228 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it sold for $10,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "Oscar I of Sweden 1/2 Speciedaler 1855, MS61 NGC, medium gray toning with luster in the legends, noticeable planchet flaw to the right of the King's neck, presumably as struck. Rare date with a mintage of 10000." Norway passed from Danish to Swedish rule in 1814. This type was issued by Sweden for Norway 1846-50 and 1855; this is the key date. A few more half specie dalers (KM 322, 328, 340) were issued under Carl XV prior to the decimal reform of 1874; all are rare.
