Künker sale 293, lot 2101

The first specimen was lot 30308 in Heritage sale 3040 (Chicago, April 2015), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "Carl XIV Johann Speciedaler 1830 XF Details (Cleaning) PCGS. Evidence of improper cleaning is certainly present, with a somewhat unnatural color as well as a number of cleaning marks in the fields. Still, it has good details and is an always-popular series to collect. We last sold an example of this date in April, 2011- that piece, also graded XF Details, hammered at $1,900." The second specimen was lot 2101 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,887 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,

"NORWEGEN, KÖNIGREICH, Karl XIV. Johan, 1818-1844. Speciedaler 1830, Kongsberg. Hübsche Patina, winz. Randfehler, fast vorzüglich. (kingdom of Norway, Charles XIV John, 1818-44, specie daler of 1830, Kongsberg mint. handsome toning, minor edge bumps, about extremely fine.)"
