This specimen was lot 2848 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $390. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY: Carl XIII, 1814-1818, AR 8 skilling, 1817, very lightly cleaned, lustrous, PCGS graded Unc details, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." This type was struck 1817 only but is very similar to KM 277 of 1809 and KM 287 of 1819. In 1814, Norway was torn from Danish rule and handed over to Sweden as punishment for the Danish king's support of Napoleon and to compensate Sweden for the loss of Finland to Russia. Prior to the decimal reform, 120 skilling = one specie daler.
