The first specimen was lot 1380 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $141. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY: Frederick VI, 1808-1814, AE skilling, 1812, NGC graded MS64 BR." The second specimen was lot 70273 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2020), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[2] noted, "NORWAY. Skilling, 1812. Kongsberg Mint. Frederick VI. NGC MS-66 Brown. Variety with crossed hammers mintmark. A magnificent minor, exceptionally lustrous throughout with flashy luster and significant amounts of stunning blue tone in the fields." This one year type is common. As punishment for supporting Napoleon, the king of Denmark was forced to cede Norway to Sweden in 1814 at the Congress of Vienna. After a stormy marriage, Norway obtained a divorce from Sweden in 1907 and has been independent since.
