This specimen was lot 11168 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €2,640 (about US$2,752). The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. 24 Skilling, 1788-HIAB. Kongsberg Mint. Christian VII. NGC Unc Details--Cleaned. A superb example of this highly elusive date. Very harshly graded as the striations in the fields comes from the die. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1772-74, 1783 and 1788 in modest quantities. One specie daler was 96 skilling. Christian VII was insane for most of his reign and the government was in the hands of regents, including his stepmother and later his son. The court was the scene of violent power struggles over who would have access to the incapable king.

Recorded mintage: 64,000, a scarce date.

Specification: 9.17 g, 0.562 fine silver, 29 mm diameter, this specimen 9.19 g.
