Norway 1689 12 skilling
This specimen was lot 5084 in Künker sale 441 (Osnabrück, March 2026), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,302 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"NORWEGEN, KÖNIGREICH Christian V., 1670-1699. 12 Skilling 1689, Christiania. "SOMMER SCHYDTZ". RR Sehr schön +. Exemplar der Sammlung Münzen und Medaillen aus adeligem Privatbesitz. (kingdom of Norway, Christian V, 1670-99, twelve skilling of 1689, Christiania mint, for summer transport. Very rare, very fine or better.)"
We are unsure what "SOMMER SCHYDTZ" is intended to mean; perhaps this was used as a ferry token. It is, however, unusual for tokens to be made from silver.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 4.18 g, 0.672 fine silver, 24 mm diameter, this specimen 4,00 g.
