This specimen was lot 40705 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. 4 Mark, 1681-PG. NGC XF-45. Christian V (1670-99)." This coin is a little small to be classed as a thaler (an honor more properly belonging to the contemporary six mark or specie daler), but it has a Davenport number so we will include it. It was struck 1681-95 and is somewhat available. Norway passed from Danish to Swedish rule in 1814.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 22.27 g, 0.672 fine silver.
Catalog reference: Dav-3663; Sieg-38; ABH-75; H-55; KM-148.1.
