Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection, lot 1194

This specimen was lot 1194 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €55,200 (about US$61,173 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Appealing Double Speciedaler with Only Limited Handling, NORWAY. 2 Speciedaler, 1654. Christiania Mint. Frederik III. NGC AU-58. Mintmaster: Frederik Grüner (FG). Obverse engraved by Jeremias Hercules. Of about eight examples known, only two or three are in private hands. This wonderful specimen shows plenty of luster and only very light handling with no visible wear on the high points and the delicate features such as the king's hair. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922). Ex: Carl F. Schubart Collection (Copenhagen - 10/1831) Lot # 1063."

This type was struck 1653-56; Numista reports seven known of this date.
