Norway 1651-FG 1/2 specie daler
This specimen was lot 1191 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €40,800 (about US$45,215 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Exceedingly Rare and Problem Free 1/2 Speciedaler, Only one Other Example Known in Private Hands, NORWAY. 1/2 Speciedaler, 1651. Christiania Mint. Frederik III. NGC AU-55. Mintmaster: Frederik Grüner (FG). Engraver: Hans zum Busch. Showing very light traces of handling and plenty of luster, especially on the reverse, this EXCESSIVELY RARE, lovely Half Speciedaler has just one other example in private hands. Faint toning adds to its beauty."
