Niger SB119-41256r.jpg

This specimen was lot 41256 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "NIGER. 100 Franc, 1968. NGC PROOF-63. Independence commemorative issue with a mintage of 1,000 pieces. Impressively produced with extreme frost on the raised surfaces and deep reflectivity existing in the fields." We don't believe Niger has ever issued coins for circulation; like many former French colonies, Niger uses the CFA franc backed by its former ruler France. Hamani Diori (1916-89) was president of Niger 1960-74.

Recorded mintage: 1,000 proofs.

Specification: 32 g, 0.900 fine gold.

Catalog reference:Fr-5; KM-11.
