Nicaragua 2000 100 cordobas
This specimen was lot 74561 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "NICARAGUA. Gold 100 Cordobas, 2000. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo." This NCLT honored the 40th anniversary of the Central Bank of Nicaragua. It was struck in Germany by the Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke, which closed in 2005. It was accompanied by a silver fifty cordobas. The Sandinistas were ousted in the elections of 1990 by Violeta Chamorro, widow of the assassinated Pedro Joaquín Chamorro Cardenal. The Sandinistas returned to power in the elections of 2006 and show no intention of relinquishing it.
